Spend & Workforce Planning/FinOps, MD
Who we are looking for
Technology Platform, Engineering & Operations (TPEO) is looking for highly motivated financial manager that has experience managing large scale infrastructure budget to build out our FinOps organization to manage State Street's multi-cloud environment. This role will be within the Office of the CTO, driving our cost base and ensuring we build controls and procedures in driving our financial models and defining our cost saving across our large scale Transformation programs globally. As well as managing our spend and workforce planning activities, we are building out the FinOps organization, the role includes a broad range of activities which require familiarity with State Street's infrastructure spending as well as a strong background in finance-related activities. Establishing the governance around cloud management working across the GTS organization as well as defining our total cost of ownership (TCO) across the estate.
• Define analytical models to provide data-driven guidance on cloud infrastructure spend.
• Create utilization and forecasting models to predict future outcomes of cloud infrastructure spend and usage.
• Create and maintain internal documentation on FinOps and cost optimization processes.
• Provide Cloud FinOps expertise, training, and guidance, applying the FinOps Foundation Framework, Principles and Domains, along with other industry best practices, tools and techniques.
• Analyze cloud cost data and assist teams to monitor, track, and report on cloud costs using approved tools
• Provide and implement FinOps benchmarks and key performance indicators (KPIs) designed to maximize business value of the cloud
• Partner with the Technology teams to ensure:
• Emerging technologies and services are optimized for cost savings
• Scheduling, including turning off VMs when no longer used and ensure legacy DC cost are eliminated after decommissioning.
• Storage rightsizing and lifecycle management to include reduce overprovisioning and underutilization of storage and use of the most cost-effective storage types.
• Logging is optimized to include determining ways to reduce volume
• The newest cloud service offerings to take advantage of the latest technology at the same/similar price of current offerings.
• Capacity Management controls are in place (reduce overprovisioning and underutilization of compute resources).
• The use of Virtual Machine (VM) savings plans/reserved instances.
• Assisting customer (typically Business CIO) to monitor, track, and report on cloud costs using existing approved tools and/or CSP-supplied tools.
• Gathering, aggregating, and analyzing cost data such as usage and other cloud costs.
• Providing input to refine existing and develop new cost estimation models and methods.
• Champion cloud infrastructure cost management best practices.
• Partners across our internal partners, finance, procurement, CIO;s, Cyber, & engineering teams to help measure and manage their cloud infrastructure costs. Be proficient with public cloud technology tools, such as Anaplan to help drive FinOps practices and methodologies.
• Defines requirements for analytical models to provide data-driven guidance on cloud infrastructure spend.
• Creates utilization and forecasting models to predict future outcomes of cloud infrastructure spend and usage.
• Creates and maintains internal documentation on FinOps and cost optimization processes.
• Work with IT Mgmt. to align business plans and long-term strategies with input into financial systems for budgeting/forecasting
• Work in a collaborative environment with IT executive management and finance unit personnel
• Provide oversight by becoming a key source of support and management within the group
• Work in a fast-paced, challenging environment with multiple, competing priorities
• Provide management reporting and metrics to IT Executive Mgmt. and Finance
• Assist with validating allocations and revising methodologies as needed to ensure fair distribution of expenses across State Street applications and business units
• Prepare business cases (cost/benefit analysis) to support investment decisions
• Participate and drive projects and team initiatives as needed
• Liaise and cultivate relationships with key contacts across various IT divisions, Finance, and Accounting
Education & Preferred Qualifications:
• 15+ years financial experience as well as cloud services, creating a TCO for the estate as we drive more workloads to the cloud
• Deep understanding of CSP FinOps tools, Anaplan is a plus
• Experience managing large IT budget as well as developing comprehensive business case and financial analysis
• Regulatory compliance experience to demonstrate governance over our estate including cloud spend
• Deep understanding of IT products and services across data center, compute, storage, etc.
• Understanding of industry best practices related to Cloud resource tagging and tagging enforcement thru automation.
• Bachelor's degree in Finance or related field preferred
• Experience managing a team and driving desired results
• Strong analytical skills; comfortable building models and performing ad-hoc analyses
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; comfortable making presentations and presenting results and drivers to senior management
Salary Range:
$170,000 - $267,500 Annual
The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
